Continuing to catalog my shortwave radios... before throwing them all out (just kidding hehe).
Here comes short wave radio No. 2 -- a Sony ICF-SW12.
It is an analog radio with an alarm clock which is powered by a separate CR 2025 battery... which is now dead so the LCD isn't functioning, and neither is the (alarm) clock which is separate from the radio.

It is a small travel radio and it looks like one.
It is pretty compact with the lid closed.

Two AA batteries. Radio operates from these.
When I looked this radio up on the web I found some criticism. That it is basically an alarm clock with a radio attached not a proper SW radio, also no headphone stereo, no DC jack -- operates only on batteries. Maybe it is all true. In fact, it is.
However the radio in it is not coupled with the clock, it can operate when the clock battery is flat as in this one. Also I found that it is pretty capable as far as shortwave reception goes -- on a par with other quality small portable radios, even better than some. And the sound through the speaker is pretty good, especially for its small size.

Short wave guide... "Edited and published by Sony Corporation"... pretty useless now as the shortwaves seem to have been much depopulated only the CRI is bucking the trend. Anyway, the guide deals only with the BBC World Service, VOA and NHK Japan output... as it was some 14 years back (the guide is 1997).

Special treatment for dear customers in the USA. Do they really write serial number in the manual?

Nice radio. As a SW100 user, I always like the look of this compact radio.
ReplyDeleteI think SW100 is "a little" better. when I was buying this sw12 a sw100 was 6-8 times more expensive. but the form factor is okay and they are similar in that at least.
